no pull - struggles to pick up speed but then drives ok, some black smoke but nothing major. could this be a prob since running out of fuel?

id start looking for a faulty injector.crack the injector hardlines then retighten just enough.start engine and systematically slacken each injector nut just enough to change engine note?/speed like when u earth ht leads on a petrol engine.i suspect one cyl will make little diference compared to others.leaking or cloged pintle.
