It could be the locking mechanism on your actual tape cassette is not releasing when you insert it into your VCR. Try holding the cassette but looking at the back of it. There should be a recessed plastic plate that can be pressed with the tip of a pen. Press this and see can you turn your cassette drums a little. If you can the snag is with your VCR. If you cannot I suggest you carefully disassemble your cassette and investigate what is preventing the cassette drums from turning freely. Hope this helps.
