How do you remove a corrupted file?

My jump drive has a folder on it that is corrupt (all gobbledegook symbols) and I can't delete it. I've tried re-formating and even partitioning, but I just get a message that says it's write-protected. Have I lost the space forever?

try a program such as "killbox" it reboots n deletes the file(s) when you reboot.
