I do not have an answer either but I have just experienced the same problem with my UK spec 2004 RX300. The display reads Cannot Read disc but I do not think it is a disc issue. I tried a lens cleaner and this brought the maps back temporarily but after a few seconds the error message returns. Dis anyone find an answer to this? Can anybody in the UK fix it at reasonable cost? UK Lexus dealer wants £1,750!

The motor burned out. Its deep in the dvd drive that controls the laser mechanism. I just fixed this on my dad's lexus RX300 (2002). Its not a job for the faint at heart, but if you are skilled at taking apart multiple layers of electronics and soldering and piecing them back together again then you can do this. I can either sell you a replacement motor or do it for you MUCH cheaper than anyone else. Email: electronictoys at gmail.com for either option.

I have a 2004 RX330.I purchased an upgraded DVD for 2008 and when it started to load, the screen get saying loading,Do not shut off and NEVER uploaded and now it is Unusable. It worked fine until I tried to install the LEXUS Factory DVD.The DVD player was sent out for repair as well as taken to a couple of lexus dealer service departments..Lexus wants a Ridiculous amount of money for a replacement unit.has anyone had any luck with a repair shop on these? Thanks!

I do not have an answer, but I have a 2002 RX 300 and have experienced the same issue. Shortly before the problem happened, the nav system was acting funny (telling me I was on a street across town) - then it went blank - now it says either Disc Error or Program Disc Installed. A helpful service assistant at Lexus of Greenwich told me that mine was the second 2002 RX 300 she saw this week with the exact same problem and told me it would be close to $1,100 to fix. I am wondering if these cars have a self destruct mech. in them so service depts can get some more $$$...
