Epson Stylus Photo rx620 all in one --scanner error will not copy or scan?

Yesterday I opened the unit and changed ink cartridges and now the copy/scanner cranks out a gear tooth grinding noise --error message will not leave the view window.
Altho the printer works fine, no ability to copy now exixts.
I've had the unit for over 3 years but have only sparsely used the scanner/copier.

Is this worth paying for a $75 check up & possible extra costs?
Or anything I can do besides uplug and hold "on" button for 20 secs?

~~much obliged for any aid here.

scanner error on screen Turn off printer, open scanner cover. On the right handside of scanner glass there is a switch in which you can toggle ...

Thanks so much!!!! My daughter prematurely started to change the ink. I told her that you have to follow precise instructions and I think she moved the cartridge carrier. Although she denies this. Once I followed your instructions which were very easy, the ink was changed and now it is ready to print. Thanks so much!!!

Make sure the unlock scanner button is in the unlock setting, had the same problem

I had this problem too. What fixed it was putting the top (lid) in the locked position. The error message went away.

It sounds like you may have moved the ink cartridge carrier when replacing the cartridge.
Switch the printer off and then back on, with luck the ink cartridge will return to the correct position.
Open the printer and check that the ink cartridge carrier is sitting in the right position, it should be almost but not quite touching the right hand side.
