I have TOMTOM 710 and to charge it, I have to hold the dock in place, applying a little pressure. Basically forcing the connection, so to speak! Its the same with my in car dock and charger.

Look at the back where the connections are - is there a small hole, about the diameter of a pencil, or does it have a raised rubber bung in it? If this grommet's missing/flattened the unit will not charge. If you contact TomTom support on their website, they can send you a new grommet.
