Can you help fix my standby problem?

My Phillips TV wont go from standby to on (at least 99% of the time). When I turn the TV on the standby light goes red, and after a few seconds you hear a click and it starts flashing. It should turn green and if you press the on off buttone 20 or 30 times eventually it works OK.

The TV is 5 years old, not a flat screen, but a big 32 inch. The TV repair shop says it's uneconomic to repair - but it must be soemthing simple. I used to be good at electronics - but that was 20 years ago - any suggestions?

hi tim same here 25 years
same problem with vcr and digitor tv
found all my problems were electrolitic caps
checked with ohm meter no problems found
bought a meter to check the series electrical resitence
with the new meter it said they were way too hight replaced them and it fixed both set
yet the multimeter says component are right just as taught back in the sixties
good luck
try esr in search engine for meter kits or full sets
