How can I get rid of a virus that is on my website?

When I go onto my website - AVG tells me there's a threat - when I go to my webpage on my computer where the infection is detected, AVG cannot remove it as it can't be found although it comes up with the warning each time.

Its a Downloader Agent and also a Trojan Horse. It doesn't seem to be on my computer although it is showing that it is in my documents and settings. temporary files/contents. etc.

I don't know whether I can simply delete the file that it is pointing to.

To see if I could get rid of it by AVG deleting it or healing it, I tried to download the infected file onto my computer but AVG wouldn't allow it - so how do I get rid of it on my website?

I have been trying for a long time now.

Can anyone help?

The files on your server should match the files on your PC, I assume you have a backup of your site?

It is possible for a hacker to get in & alter files sometimes.

There is really no way of telling what this is unless you give a link to the url & if it's not just straight html but generated from database then the source code of the file too.

First make sure that you have the latest AVG updates on your system.

Then add an exlusion to AVG from "Resident Shield" tab.

It isn't on my computer as I've run AVG on it and nothing is detected but when I go on to my website and click through various links or searches, a virus is detected.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to Run a Virus Scan on my server?

I'm sorry but I'm not very experienced - my husband set up the website and unfortunately he died suddenly and I don't know how to do everything.

I would appreciate you telling me how I run a Virus Scan on my server please?

From your question I am not sure where this bug is. If it is on your PC then run a virus scanner. If it is on a website that you own, run a virus scanner on the server(s).
