The screen on my laptop has been playing up in that sometimes it works and most times it doesn't. It works if it is connected to an external monitor so have been told its not a pc card problem.

you'll probably find it's a loose connection, either the ribbon cable that connects the LCD screen to the motherboard or the Inverter. Check for loose connection
