Jeep Cherokke auto gearbox removal and replacement?

does anyone know the official and / or the actual time estimate for removal and refit of the automatic gearbox to a Jeep Cherokee [built in 1997]?

Is it a straightforward job for DIY (reasonably competent)?

Hi David, book time for removal and instalation is 3.3hrs but that would be under ideal conditions with a hoist and transmission jacks

Hi i dont know the actuall book times for you.
How ever it does,nt take very long, there big and heavy,if your doing it on your back without a ramp id suggest you take the transfer box off first then take the box out.
I would also suggest you have someone working with you and be very carefull as the gearbox with the torque convertor is very heavy, use a trolley jack with a flat board on it dont just try and lift it out on your own.
Also when you fit it again, put the convertor in the gearbox first making sure it,s lined up in the pump before you fit the box.
If you have any more questions e-mail me.
