Honda Lawnmower ?

I have a Honda HRR2163VKA model self propel Smart Drive lawnmower approx 3-1/2 - 4 yrs old. The problem is that it does not move when I engage the Smart Drive. I adjusted the cable per the operators manual but still nothing. However when I lift the drive wheels, rear wheels, off the ground the wheels turn and appear engaged. I checked the gears in the gear box and they appear good. Is there anything more I can do??

Did the drive ever work satisfactorily?
I have a similar model in which the drive never worked properly snd then failed completely.
I think that the engine timing was at fault so that there was insufficient power for the wheels. Now mine no longer runs, despite light use. It backfires through the air filter and the exhaust with a flame shooting out from the exhaust. The plug was very sooty.
I have stripped it down. It is well engineered but there seems no way to adjust the engine timing.

I will take it to the local agents for a quote and will let you know how I get on.
