Replacement timers or timer controllers are widely available on the internet or from local retailers. Prices vary widely as does the quality of the products. Genuine Hotpoint spares can be expensive but after market or reconditioned spares are much cheaper.
If you can wield a screwdriver and are technically minded enough to re-wire a plug you should be able to swap the timer connectors over from the old one to the new one without calling in a service technician. Alternatively if you go on the hotpoint website you can book a service call for around £100 which includes parts, labour and a 90 day guarantee.
