How to access the battery in a Mercedes Vito?

I am trying to change the battery in my Mercedes Vito van but looks like the seat needs taking out to get to it. Any ideas how the best way to get to the battery?

take the removable plugs that hold the fuses at the end of the seat out and move to one side the battery will slide out easily disconect terminals and retaining bolts first though but if you havent got common sence to do that take it to a dealer

i have 108cdi the battery comes out the hole in the side (plastic cover) i know cause i had to change mine

It does come out from the top but it is fiddly and you have to tilt the battery. Be carefull not to disturb the relays to the right. I did and the horn stopped working causing it to fail MOT. I had to show garage which was the horn relay

Its a further question also cant get at the battery on my old W reg 110 its under the 2 passenger seats which are bolted down I cant see how they move. so Im guessing you have to undo 4 screws on the right of the front panel somehow access the neg terminal an pull out via the access towards the door tking half the wiring loom with it ??!?

lift/flip up the seat and replace the battery no need of removing the seat :)

heah guys ,
I own a 2004 vito van ,which is my family car .I had to change the battery and had to remove the seat to do so . I live in AUSTRALIA , so maybe due to our laws two gold coloured brackets hold the battery in place ,13mm hex bolt . So the battery wont slide out . Also you will need an extension bar for your socket drive . Small hands are also required as the amount of wiring loom under the seat is insane .Under direction from my mechanic at my dealer I purchased a smaller battery (in size, not power) ,so the replacement went in easier .P.S. DONT ask your wife to help!. `Why do I have to hold a torch is the interior light broken as well ?'.
take care regards Scott Douglas

Remove access panel under passenger seat, reach in & disconnect, then slide battery towards you, then replace.Granted it is a bit fiddly, but thats how its done,no need to remove seat.

The battery is underneath the passenger seats..and they pull forward and then flip up...strange init..then you can access the battery from the top...hope this helps..
