1999 VW Polo 1.0 Idling Problem?

1999 VW polo 1.0, It is taking a long time for the revs to drop down when decelerating in gear,car is fine when being revved at a standstill and not in gear,we have replaced the speed sensor on the gearbox, any other suggestions
