Bob,
Get a screwdriver and on the actual tailgate push the screwdriver into the locking mechanism at the same angle that the lock pin goes in,
It should click twice, as the little leaver catches the screwdriver.
(to release it press the button as you would normally to open it)
If it doesnt click twice its the catch that has gone - they sometimes do and you will have to source a new or secondhand one, thats the main problem
- other thing is the check the post on the rear panel hasn't come loose -
doesnt normally, but can get knocked, if it has tighten it finger tight shut the door if it works tighten it right up - if not move it about a little till it does and then tighten it up
