if you boot from an xp disk and start going through the setup it will ask you about deleting partitions which you may want to do then ask you to create a partition which it will then format in what ever you want fat32, ntfs etc.

Remeber that deleting a partition or formating will destory any data on the disk so take care.

Look on EBay for a windows disk recovery/utility disk (about £7-£10 - type 'format hard drive' in the search bar). I purchased one a while back and it saved my life! You will also be able to format a hard drive with the disk and re-install your XP software (you must have the original LICENSED disk as you will be asked for the License number when installing.
