Peugeot 307 Accelerator Problem?

I have a 307 03reg 2ltr HDi and when I accelerate away the accelerator pedal sticks and in some cases continues towards the floor on its own. This obviously causes the engine to rev extremely high and eventually the "Anti Pollution Fault" flashes up and the power is reduced.

What I'd like to know is if this is a problem with the accelerator pedal or engine, ECU, etc...

Had the car checked out, there was an open circuit between the break and accelerator. The mechanic believes it was the floor matt sliding up underneath the pedals.

Removed matt, works fine now.
