power steering pump volvo v40 TD 1998?

I cant remove the steering pump from the car because the 3 branch support for the drive belt pulley that is on the pump drive shaft wont pass through the aperture in the aluminium casting that the pump is mounted on.
Can the 3 branch pulley support be removed ?
