renewed cylinder head gasket on 91 astra 1.6 lx cant restart it sounds as if its starting without timing belt on but timing belt is ok please help.

It could be the hydraulic tappets sticking. Try squeezing the oil out of them (use a G clamp etc).

If you haven't already sorted it.

You might have the timing belt on but have you set the timing ? check it out as you could do more damage if timing is too far out. Check against the book you've got the timing marks lined up on the cam wheel as even one notch out can upset the timing. I've had this problem on other cars I've had.
