How can I fix my dvd burner?

When I try to burn a dvd I get a message asking me to insert a dvd when I have already inserted one. I can still play dvd's from the same drive. I thought it might have been the dvd (Philips brand) but I have tried a different make with the same result

have you tried going into the settings for your burner and making sure that the box is ticked for it to burn.
you could also try convertx it is a freedownload/software and burns just about anything in half the time it takes nero
