the dryer has been stopping due to over heating the filter is clean. it is 4 years old

Start dryer & put your hand over the outlet on the back. If you cannot feel any air blowing out that will be the reason. Take the plastic cover off the belt drive for the fan & check belt. They often break or sometimes just come off.
