K reg cavalier - how do i know if the cable needs replacing?

I have a cavalier 1.8l K reg 1992 - the gears dont seem to be engaging. Can i adjust the clutch cable or does it need replacing - if i can adjust it how do i do it.

Thanks

this is common problem, if the clutch is not worn out.
You can see if theres any play in the cable by moving the link at the gearbox where cable connects, if theres play just tighten up nut on end of cable a bit.
more likely however is the the gear linkage rod needs adjusting. not hard buts can take a bit longer.
