Citroen Berlingo 1.9 diesel?

The van is 2002 reg.Following a trip from heathrow, the next morning the van wont start. The mechanic changed the heater plugs but the car wont start.I am told there is an immobiliser malfuntioning and a bosch diagnostic reveals that the EMU needs changing costing a whopping £1000.00.Could you please tell me if I am dreaming? or it is a common problem.thanks.Eddie

Not an answer, but my 2001 Berlingo is getting tricky to start in v cold weater. I have changed glow plugs and got a new battery, but could it be something else?
