Mercedes CD220 Elegance - immobiliser?

Help!

My immobiliser has kicked in - have I any option but to get towed to a Mercedes garage and pay their nice people £97 / hr to look at it, and then £300 for the ignition system, and £100 per key?! plus VAT

I am prepared to take fairly drastic measures!
