This is not an "individual" malfunction...
This is actually a physical manifestation of the unit's lack of self-worth...It "wants" to "be a part of" the rest of the worthless junk currently burning in trash heaps the world over. That "burning rubber smell" could also be your neighbors leaving town due to the decibel level coming from YOUR vacuum!

The rubber belt has broken in your machine. The smell is the motor turning against a non-moving belt and wearing away at it. You need to open up the vacuum(two screws underneath and two tabs) and replace it with a new belt or, if your not handy, take it to someone who does that. I have the same model and just replaced the belt on mine. The belt cost me $5.
