how can i fix my hotpoint WM83 1200Spin?

There is a crackling noise from the motor and brushes which turns the drum,i had to tap the motor beside the brushes to get the drum to turn after it stopped in the middle of a wash,do i need to replace the brushes or would it usually be the motor?

cheapest option try a set of carbon brushes sounds like yours are reaching the end of there life .if left to arc will burn the armature segments
