how to start brush on kenmore progressive upright? second one i bought that?

this *&%^&** kenmore progressive upright doesn't drive brush. i didn't get any paperwork with it. brush doesn't go on floor or carpet setting

A switch rests against the hose outlet of the agitator which stops the brush from turning in case the hose is removed. Make sure the hose from the back of the vacuum is pushed far enough on to the brush unit to engage this switch.
