i have a transit 2.oL diesel,can get 3 and 4 gear only?

i have a 2001 ford transit diesel.i can only get into 3rd or 4th gear.it has only 60000 miles.i checked the linkage and cables under gear lever and everything looks ok.is it a big job to repair

I have had the same trouble its the gearbox shaft that is dry. take off the reverse light switch and spray wd 40 up inside it will gradually free off.

I had the same problem on my van. mec said it was a common fault with the fwd trannys. the garage had it done in about 4 hours
