Philips TV sticks on standby and wont turn on. Help please?

Hi

I have a 26inch Philips TV which is about 6 years old. All was
fine .Then few days ago connected up to a set top "freeview" box to get more channels. All was fine for few days and at end of each day would put both tv and set top on standby. Then this morning I tried to start tv and it would not start and would only stay on standby mode (with the red light).
What I have noticed is that when I use the remote control from the set top box it flickers also on the tv standy light. I wonder whether this remote control has somehow effected the tv and thus it wont come out of standby onto any channel.

Any ideas ,and how can I reset everything ?

I think your TV is broken. A TV will lock itself in standby mode if there is a fault on the HT circuit. Common cause is the LOPT driver being short circuit.

Needs professional attention.

Or, if you are brave, the DIY method:
Look for a large rectangular transistor some where near the transformer with the HT lead coming out the top. If you are lucky, no other damage will have been done.

I must point out that there could also be a lot of other faults aswell. ( Line Output Transformer, Capacitors etc...)
PS: If trying to buy a replacement transistor, it might have a number like D2039 on it - you may need to put 2S in front of this number ( ie: 2SD2039 ) for buying one.
