why does this happen?

on our Sylvania tv, a black rectangle appears on the screen with white letters with "HTTp ][ default website" written over and over.If we click the set off & on a few times, it goes away.Does anyone have a clue as to what is happening?

Is this TV connected directly to the cable line? Or is there a cable box / VCR / etc connected?

sounds like you have connected the tv to the gas main.
