nissan almera cam chain streched?

our 1.8 almera sport is misfireing below 3000 revs above this its ok,been on diagnostics we were told the timeing chain (not synthetic) has streched and this is the cause of misfireing and should be replaced.if this is so surely it would misfire all the time can anybody help

Not unheard of on chain driven Micras, Almeras and Primeras...the chain can stretch to such an extent that the TDC sensors get unsteady readings and can give your problem, even though the motor can still be quiet.
