how to fit new rear brakepads?

2002 Renault Scenic
Bri Hague, April 2009
Remove the roadwheel, then remove the 2 x 13mm bolts that hold the caliper in place. The caliper can be pulled clear of the disc, and the pads levered out. Clean everything up at this point. However, if you are putting new pads in, the caliper piston has to be turned clockwise as it is pushed in. There is a special rewind tool for this (Laser tools do one). With the piston fully retracted, put the new pads in place after greasing any sliding edges, and putting 'coppaslip' grease on the pad backs. The caliper can then be replaced and bolted back on. A couple of yanks on the handbrake, and some presses on the brake pedal - job done.
