renault espace auto box?

hi we have a 1998 renault espace 2.0 ltr auto.
the auto box sometimes drives fine and other times it goes into limp mode you can never tell when it will do this any ideas ?

have the same problem ,nightmare. brill car otherwise if ours is playing up if we stop on a hill pointing downwards re start the car and let it roll on its own in drive it is ok am told it is an electrical fault ie not a g/box fault but no idea yet still trying
