Thomson Freeview 250Gb Recorder Box all of a sudden won't turn on!?

I'm looking here for an answer to the above problem but it would seem that a lot of other people are expereincing the same problem all of a sudden.

I've had my box less than 12 months and now it won't switch on; Normally the indicator light is red when it's off and orange during the switch on sequence and then changes to green when it's booted up. But now it won't start up and stays on orange.

I bought this box because my previous one was a Daewoo which all of a sudden packed in, the internet provided the answer that it was because the company that produced the coding for it had ceased to exist. I wonder if this is a similar problem, if so I've now been caught out twice and so much for 'future proof' digital television.

I bought the Thomson unit for my wife's TV 4 months ago. She mastered the unit etc and was enjoying her recording's. Guess what? yes you got it, same problem. Took it back to shop, gave us all the waffle. It turns out Thomson told them, it was a problem with the unit. So I got a refund, these units seem to be a night mare, they have all got there problems. But hey ho we are talking British Market Place and lets face it we do have the world crap left on our shores and we still put up with it. SORRY.

same prob this box is just sh!t done the up down thing it worked well i had to do it like 7 times but it worked :)

i used the up>down>left>right method, had to do it a couple of times, but worked in the end!! although, because you are formatting the HDD you will lose your recordings.

unplug the box for 20sec. press and hold standby button on the box while plugging it back in. As soon as the amber light flashes let go and press up,down, left and right arrow keys in sequence 3 times. The amber light will stay on and the green light will start flashing. In approx 60 sec the box will turn on by itself.

www.topuptv.co.uk gives details of how to fix it... took me a couple of tries before i eventually got it working but eventually managed. Just bear in mind when it says "flashing light" i was originally waiting for the green flashing light- this was not working! When you get the first amber flash quickly press the up/down/left/right arrows.

I have had same problem with amber light not going off.Followed steps above worked but had to do it several times before the reciever switched back on.

I contacted Topuptv's HQ (after several failed attempts on their customer careline and emails which have not been answered). I was advised there is a software issue which has caused a massive problem to the majority of their customers. They hope to resolve the issue in the next couple of hours.

They said there was also a problem with the phone system which is why you can't get through to anyone.

This works but you lose your recordings.

Front Panel Reset (Reformat HDD)
Attention: this will unfortunately cause your recordings to be lost.
Remove power to the unit by removing the power cable from the back of the DTR.
2. Wait 20 seconds and restore the power cable while holding in the standby/power on button on the front panel of the DTR.
3. Release the standby button immediately you see a light ?blip? on the DTR front display and then immediately press the following front panel arrow buttons quickly and in the sequence Up>Down>Left>Right
4.The DTR will now show the Orange LED with the Green LED flashing until the format has been completed in about 60 seconds. The DTR will return to ON automatically.
5. If requested, perform a channel scan to complete the operation
