My Hotpoint CTD40 sets of the trip when switched on?

I have emptied the lint filter, the condensor filter, the water container and checked the rear filter, and yet when I switch on the dryer it sets off the trip and everything goes out, what could be cause and how can I fix it?

I had a similar problem and found a piece of underwiring had somehow worked it's way out and was shorting the machine.
