Scooter will not idle?

My sym 100cc scotter starts but it ill not idle. It has been standing for quite a while so I presume something is blocked or dirty. Do I have to take the wole thing apart to get to the carb?

TO ADD 2 WHAT BB SAID. I WOULD GO TO CAR SPARES SHOP AND GET CARB CLEANER IT COMES IN AN AEROSOL CAN. THIS STUFF IS DESIGNED FOR CLEANING CARBS, WORKS BRILLIANT

If it has been standing it will be your carb. you will have to give the carb a clean and it has probably gummed up. Sometimes you may be lucky and a really good long ride will clear it.
To strip the carb you will have to take some panels off and though I am not sure on your model it should be easy to take off. generally 2 bolts. You will then have to take the bottom of the carb off (float bowl) held by 2-4 screws. there will be a float in there and a main jet. Carefully take these off and clean them. Be very gentle and put back as you find. Inside a carb is easy to damage so be gentle. Use clean petrol to clean parts. Just take you time and one thing off at a time so you will remember where it goes.
