No spark?

How can you test the ignition system on a Ryobi gas Trimmer
R Vickerman, May 2009
Thanks for that John, I have tried that and there is no spark. It is the ignition module I would like to test, which I presume generates the spark.

Remove the spark plug, and rest it on a metal part of the engine when you crank it over. If all is well you should see a tiny spark. The trouble is, if you cant rest the plug on a metal part because of the loads of plastic around, use a small wire with a crocodile clip on each end to assist you. Clip one end to some engine metal, and the other to the spark plug screw threads.
