What does it mean when it smokes? Can I fix it myself, or is the vacuum no good?

I thought my belt broke, so I took my 350 apart and realized that the plastic motor mount had broke off causing the gear that holds the belt on to also break off. Does anyone know where I could purchase these parts or does anyone have a hoover elite 350 that doesn't work who would be interested in salvaging the parts? Email me at clark2007@comcast.net. Around the edges of the bottom there are some small slots. Insert and screwdriver and pry all the way around. This should allow the cover to pop off.
