Black an Decker Hedge Trimmer GT-370 does not work in straight position?

The Black & Decker Hedge Trimmer which I bought 2 years ago and have used about half a dozen times does not now work when the handle is in the straight position although it works when it is on tilt. Can you please advise on what may be the problem.

Might try cleaning the blades - plant juice sometimes gums them up - a squirt of WD40 after cleaning helps - else weird electrical fault in cable or switch - all guesswork.
