Whirlpool Ultimate care II cycles do not complete?

My washer quits mid-cycle and I'm left with a machine full of water, and no way to drain. I can sometimes play with the dial and get the cycle to complete, but now it seems to have completely quit.

Cycles start normally. Wash completes, but the spin/drain won't complete.

actually just wanted to say thanks for helping me figure it out as my lid switch fell.

but there must be something not right for my machine to produce enough torque to break the plastic where the screws hold the lid switch in place... or is it fairly common?

Sounds like something stuck in your pump, with the machine empty and power off take off main sump hose from pump and check inside pump.
