how can i fix my 1989 nissan pickup truck?

I'm having problems getting my 89 nissan pickup to start!it is a fuel injected z24 4 cylinder engine you turn the key and it trys to start but wont! i checked to see if the spark plugs were getting fire and they were! the person who had the truck said the water hose blew off and water went all over the motor then died and could not get it started he also said that he had ran the truck out of gas at the same time! would the running it out of gas be a problem since it is a fuel injected truck! What do I do please help???!!!

If you are in fact getting fire and the truck has been run out of gas it could be the fuel pump is bad and not able to supply the right amount of fuel pressure to the injector system.....you can pull off the air duct going to the throttle plate and holding the plate open spray a carb cleaner or starter fluid in the bore .......if it cranks and runs for a little while its a problem with the fuel system ....do this if you don`t have a fuel pressure gauge ....
