Vax 6131 not picking up shampoo from carpet?

my Vax machine seems to have lost suction after only half an hour use and I don't have an instruction manual.

I can't speak for that model, but these machines usually dispense the solution when moving them backwards, and only pick it up again when moving forwards...have you cleaned the lint filter in the recovery tank?
