My husband changed the plugs and oil and the Engine auto diagnosis light is on on the dash what has gone wrong

Maybe he cranked the engine over with the plugs disconnected, or he had the ignition on? The car has logged a fault code in its on board computer and needs to go to a garage with diagnostic gear who can turn the lamp back off for you.
