how do i fix my vauxhall cavalier diesel?

I was driving and didnt have any probs. Got to a roundabout put into first gear when it sounded like it popped out of gear but stick was still in place. Will not go into gear and move any ideas? It is an m reg 1.6 diesel cavalier?
