how to time a Briggs engine 16 hp?

timeing a Briggs engine 2803H07 type 0399-E1
C Sullivan, July 2009
In order to put a Brigge and Stratton Engine back in time you have to remove the bottom pan from the engine if you haven't done so already. lift the can up a little and turn the crank shaft so that the gear on the shaft is pointing at the 3:00 position the line up the dots on the crank gear and the cam and incert the cam into it's positioning hole anf the engine is in time.

hope you remember to replace the Govenor gear before you replace the bottom pan

The ignition timing is set for you because the flywheel is fixed to the crankshaft with a woodruff key. To set the valve timing, line up the marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gear wheels. The marks may be dots, lines or > < types.
