how do i stop a wheel falling off my dyson upright?

One of the wheels on my dyson DC01 keeps falling off. I bought a small spring but this did not fix the problem. have you any other ideas on how to fix it?

The wheels are held onto the shaft by a small circlip shaped like the letter E...in fact its called an e clip.
