Traction control is a safety feature which limits wheel spin by automatically applying the brake on whichever wheel is spinning and by reducing engine power.
Traction control is switched ON by default.
If you push the TC button the light on the button and on the dash should come on and traction control is disabled.
Next time you start the car traction control will automatically be switched on again.
When you turn on the ignition does the ABS/TC light on the dash light up then go out again? If not I suspect you have a problem and someone has removed the bulb. This will fail an MOT.
If the light on the button does not come on fit a new one.
Remember, if the light is ON the traction control is OFF.
