i can lock and unlock my car but when i put my key in the ignition my car won't start what can i do?

What year, is it petrol or diesel, why are you so sure it's the immobiliser?
When you turn the key does the engine spin or do you hear a click or does nothing happen?
If it spins is it faster or slower than normal?
Was it running ok before this?
Have you checked the basics, eg fuel, spark, battery, cambelt etc?
