rear pads change on 08 megane?

i cannot get piston to retract on rear caliper to allow me to fit new pads

Thats because the piston has to be turned clockwise as you press it in. There is a special rewind tool for this but maybe you'll get away with gentle pressure from a G cramp as you turn the piston with some water pump pliers.
