How can I fix my Canon Printer?

Hello I'm having a problem with my printer. At first the paper would go through about half way then get stuck or jammed I put the paper in the right way and everything. When I opened it to see if anything was jammed there was a plastic see through thing under the ink jets, I think it is part of the printer if so how do I put it back on , and why is the paper jamming. Thabks for your help!
